Bloodborne Pathogens – The Basics is designed for individuals who may be exposed to blood and body fluids during the performance of their work and who require a basic understanding of blood-borne pathogens, prevention of occupational exposure, and exposure follow-up.
Course Content
The Blood-borne Pathogens Course consists of 3 modules. The outline for the course material is as follows:
• Module 1: Introduction to Blood-borne Pathogens
• Module 2: Prevention of Blood-borne Pathogen Exposure
• Module 3: Blood and Body Fluid Exposure Follow-up
Course Objectives
Upon completion of the Blood-borne Pathogens course the participant will be able to:
- Recognize the hazards associated with occupational exposure to blood and body fluids.
- Be familiar with the steps to prevent exposure to blood and body fluids.
- Know the steps that should be taken following exposure to blood and body fluids.
Evaluation Process
At the end of each module, there is an exam that each course participant must challenge and successfully complete with a passing grade of 80% before continuing to the next content module. A final exam follows completion of all three modules.
Course Duration
The course is self-paced so course duration will depend on the individual participant and prior knowledge of the course subject matter. On average, the course will take 1.0 – 1.5 hours to complete each of the 3 modules.
